Thank you for your desire to save lives. Each year the City of West Jordan cares for thousands of lost, abandoned or stray animals. While most are relocated back home, many are not. Animals impounded off the street or brought into the shelter are held for a minimum of three days. During this time, they may be observed by a potential adoptee. If the animal is not claimed at the end of three days (five days if the animal has a form of identification) at the shelter, it will be made available for adoption. Adoptions are on a first come first serve basis. If nobody has shown interest in the animal after a three day stay at the shelter, the animal will be kept as long as we have room and feel it has a potential for adoption. The adoption process is not as easy as acquiring an animal for sale through the paper. The time you have decided to adopt may not be an optimal time for selection. Be prepared to visit multiple shelters, many times before matching the appropriate animal with your specific wants and needs. Little is usually known about the breed of a shelter animal, the temperament or medical history. Research should be made on all breeds of animals before any life changing commitment is made. If a large dog is adopted, appropriate space is required. All potential adopters must be at least 18 years of age. West Jordan is proud to offer adoptions for the reasonable fee of $30.00. This fee includes a full set of vaccinations. If the animal is not already sterilized, an additional $21.00-$75.00 will be added for the sterilization.
